Day 159/September 7

Miles hiked: 13.3 in 6:57
Start: , Mile 1729.1, Damascus, VA
Finish: Double Spring Gap Campsite, VA
Elevation gain: 3,067'

So nice to see this sign, after a long climb. One more state in the rear view mirror.

Three section hikers I met at the VA/TN stateline, all from Massachusetts originally. They were doing some section hikes, slack packing, on the AT, but their big to-do would be the Tennessee vs Virginia Tech football game on the weekend at Bristol Motor Speeway, with seating for 150,000!

Yup, I carried that in for lunch and dinner.

I doubt anyone uses this old shelter anymore.

And this might be why--all the trash that idiots leave in the fire pit. A great way to attract bears.

On the other hand, this tent site was perfectly clean and no bears came to visit.
